The Best Way to Order from Windy City Pizza and BBQ

As we enter the Holiday season, all of us at Windy City Pizza and BBQ wish to thank all of you for the support and loyalty so many of you have shown by ordering lunches and dinners for takeout or delivery over the last nine (!) months of pandemic shutdown!

As we work hard to survive the temporary closing of the Windy City dining room and bar, every order makes a difference in keeping the doors open until we can safely welcome everyone back!

Third-Party Delivery Apps Take a Big Percentage of Our Takeout and Delivery Revenue

One hurdle to ensuring the survival of local restaurants is the fees third-party delivery services like DoorDash, UberEats and GrubHub charge for their services. It is no secret that those fees can add up to 30% of the check on many orders! Continue reading The Best Way to Order from Windy City Pizza and BBQ

Bay Area Chicago Bears Fan Club – October Update

To Our Chicago Bears Fan Club Members from Ronnie;

Hello Bay Area Bears Fans!

I hope all of you are doing well and keeping your blood pressure down with all of these Bears games! I wish we could all be at Windy City Pizza enjoying the season together. Unfortunately we can’t, but at least we have Bears football to watch. Here we are at 4-1 and haven’t really hit our potential yet! Our defense is playing pretty well but not great. They are missing a lot of tackles and committing penalties, all of which are driving me crazy! But at least they are making the plays when we really need them to. It’s only a matter of time before Quinn and Mack really start wreaking havoc on the opposing offense, and that’s when the rest of the D benefits.

You all know I’m a Trubisky guy, but as long as the Bears play well and win with Foles that’s what it’s all about – the Team. I was upset when Tarik Cohen was injured and gone for the year, that was a big loss. He will be missed for sure this year. But Cordarrelle Patterson is doing a great job and is exciting to watch, isn’t he? Now, if the offense can really get going. Some of the play-calling by Nagy has had me puzzled. So, it was good to see Foles get so animated on the side line  with Nagy during the Thursday night game, showing his frustration with the tempo of the game. That’s what you want to see from your quarterback – he’s on the field, he knows what’s going to work against the defense and sometimes you have to change the game plan.

We play the Panthers next, this Sunday, October 18. Let’s hope we are 5-1 after that game! Our season gets tougher after that, so hopefully we can avoid injuries and our offense is able to get on a roll. Still haven’t heard if the injury sustained by offensive lineman James Daniels is season-ending or not. He was playing well, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Sad news with the passing of Bears legend Gayle Sayers recently. He was one of my all-time favorite Bears, as with many fans. I was lucky to have met him at the Bears Fan Fest in 2005, when I turned into 8-year-old nervous Ronnie! He couldn’t have been nicer, talking to me and signing a picture.

Well Bears Fans, I just wanted to say hello and let you know we’re thinking about you and hoping you’re all staying healthy and enjoying our 4-1 Bears. I’ve been watching the games in my Bears room with the family, scaring my poor dogs as I scream at the TV much of the time. I would love to see photos of you in your own Bears den. Maybe Trish can post them in a future email or on Windy City’s website – how about you email one or two to her?

Take care everyone and Go Bears!

Bear Down! Thanks, Ronnie D.

From Trish & Bob;

Sundays are definitely not the same without you Bears fans – we miss the camaraderie, the raffle, the fun of being together, the suspense of anticipating another win, singing the song, catching up with all of your news. Yes, indeed, we miss all of you.

Thanks, Ronnie. for the recap of the Bears games this season, yes, we would love to see some fan pics. Email: yeatshome@sbcglobal.net or bob@windycitypizza.com

Ensuring Customer and Food Safety during the Coronavirus Crisis

During the weeks of sheltering in place, folks are ordering food to take a break from cooking, and to support local restaurants like Windy City. We very much appreciate all the support we have received from our loyal customers. But it’s natural to be concerned about the safety of ordering in food while trying to practice social distancing to stay healthy.

As quoted in an April 13 article on the Food Network:

“Health authorities affirm that there is no evidence that food or food packaging is causing the spread of coronavirus,” said Tamika Sims, PhD, Director of Food Technology Communications at the International Food Information Council (IFIC).

These are the precautions Windy City is taking to ensure our customers are protected during no-contact order pickup:

Updated Food and Delivery Service – Coronavirus/COVID-19 Outbreak Update (3/17/2020)

Starting today, 3/17 (St. Patrick’s Day) Windy City will comply with the order issued for the six counties, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, Santa Clara and San Mateo, prohibiting restaurant dine-in. We are pleased to be able to continue providing delivery and pick up to our customers. Given that we are looking at reduced hours for our long-tenured, hard-working employees – when possible – we will appreciate your ordering directly with the restaurant vs. our third party partners. This keeps our phones ringing, our POS system running and our spirits brighter! We will all weather this storm easier if we’re able to continue doing what we do best – provide great food to our loyal customers. Orders can be placed via phone (dinosaur style!) at 650-578-1942 or via Windy City’s in-house ordering system Hunger-Rush  if you are picking up or ordering within our regular delivery hours. This will help us greatly as our third party delivery partners potentially will be busier now, with associated longer delivery times. Our full menu continues to be available for delivery/pick up. As a reminder, we deliver to San Mateo, Burlingame (south of Broadway), Foster City, Redwood Shores, San Carlos and Belmont. Normal delivery Hours: Sunday – Thursday Evenings: 5:00pm – 8:30pm. Friday – Saturday Evenings: 5:00pm – 9:30pm. Larger catering/delivery orders accommodated anytime. (see link to website)

Our third party partners are: DoorDash, Uber, GrubHub, Slice and Go-Go Cater. Please see yesterday’s post regarding “Non-contact” delivery if you choose not to enter the restaurant for pick up.

Our theme “We Love Our Customers” continues and our heartfelt thanks go out to all of you for your ongoing support. Last night a customer at the bar told us she had come in for her “last good meal.” No! that doesn’t need to be the case.

Like everyone, we are in uncharted territory, so expect periodic updates as we respond to guidelines and the needs of you, our loyal customers.

Stay safe – Trish & Bob

Food and Delivery Service – Coronavirus/COVID-19 Outbreak Update

Like everyone in our community, Windy City is closely monitoring guidelines from the CDC, local health authorities and California’s Governor, to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. Today we received several calls inquiring if we are open, which we are.

The health of our guests and employees is paramount and we want to communicate some additional measures we have implemented during this rapidly evolving situation:

  1. To every extent possible, Windy City is increasing its – already meticulous – adherence to sanitation, food safety, personal hygiene.
  2. We are strongly urging all guests to automatically avail themselves of the hand sanitizers throughout the restaurant.
  3. To ensure “social distancing” we are reducing the number of tables available to our guests, so as to comply with current best practices recommending groups be separated by 6’.
  4. Windy City has three in-house delivery drivers, along with our third-party delivery partners (DoorDash, Uber, GrubHub.)
  5. The third-party drivers are now able to provide “Contact-free” delivery, allowing customers to request their pre-paid order be left at their front door, lobby or other location, minimizing contact with others.
  6. Our guests may also arrange “Contact-Free” pick up of their food orders by:
    1. requesting this service when the order is placed and
    2. calling 650-578-1942 from outside the restaurant (front door/red bench) to alert our staff that they are on the premise and ready to pick up.

Please call us if we may answer any questions you have – or email:
bob@windycitypizza.com.

We are all in a very fluid situation and the Windy City team is anxious to contribute to the safety and well being of our loyal customers.

Stay safe everyone – Bob & Trish
